Christina says:

Social worker Bo Bradley from San Diego is asked to go into the foggy
night by a friend from the police to look after fifteen year old Fianna
alias Janny Malcolm. The girl is hanging out in the Goth scene and was
found in deep shock on the steps of a night club. Her foster parents don't
feel up to keeping her any longer, and Bo's boss would also like to send
her to an institution for mentally disturbed adolescents. To prevent this,
Bo has to solve the mystery of Janny's birth and prove that the threat the
girl is feeling is very real.
Once more Abigail Padgett hauls her readers into the fascinating world
of Bo Bradley, her manic-depressive heroine fighting against the stigma of
her mental illness and passionately defending the rights of abused and
neglected children.
As usual, Bo is seeing things in her very own way. In this book she
draws strength and inspiration from her grandmother's Celtic legends, but
aside from this it's her dedicated detective work that solves the case
rather than some supernatural power.
Padgett is a great storyteller, surrounding her heroine with
fascinating supporting characters instead of losing herself in
descriptions of the milieu, even though the story could easily tempt her
to do so. The family tragedy involving three generations is captivating
from the first to the last page, and Padgett never drops the ball.
The Dollmaker's Daughters is a book that makes you think and
question your own expectations, you can't very well ask for more. |
