Christina says:

After divorcing her plastic surgeon husband Charlie Plato moved from
Seattle to San Francisco and bought a sixth of a Country & Western
Club. When a skeleton appears in a flower bed right in front of the club
after an earthquake Charlie is curious but quite willing to leave the
investigation to Sergeant Taylor Bristow of the local police precinct, but
then she receives threatening phone calls and sets out to find whoever
killed Mr. X herself. By her side is former TV star Zack Hunter, one of
the other owners of the club, who brings his experience as a TV sheriff,
his good looks and his popularity to the investigation.
You don’t have to be a Country & Western fan to enjoy DYING TO
SING. I don’t count myself among that number and found the club an
interesting setting that stayed in the background and didn’t eclipse the
mystery. Margaret Chittenden brings on a number of likable and less
likable characters most of whom manage to win the reader’s sympathy. The
mystery plot is twisting along appropriately, but remains plausible. DYING
TO SING is the first book of the Charlie Plato series and Charlie only
recently has met her partners Savannah, Angel and Zack. Chittenden places
hints about a possible development of their friendship and dark spots in
their respective pasts that stir the curiosity for the next installments
of the series. There’s plenty of chemistry between Charlie and Zack. The
saucy redhead and the handsome, but stupid TV star who may not be quite as
dense as it seems play the classic game of "will they or won’t
they". At least in this first book they manage to keep it fresh.
A fun read. |
